Young Professionals Committee
Purpose
The Young Professionals Committee (YPC) will facilitate interaction among young professionals in the drinking water industry and promote YP regional and national involvement with American Water Works Association (AWWA).
The mission of the Young Professionals Committee is to:
- Encourage young professionals to become actively involved with AWWA regionally and nationally.
- Provide a comfortable environment in which young professionals can meet and exchange ideas.
- Facilitate opportunities to learn and grow professionally by sponsoring local lunch and dinner seminars, technical tours, and career development programs.
- Encourage community involvement through volunteering and mentoring.
A Young Professional is defined as someone with/who:
- Less than 15 years experience in the drinking water industry;
- An employee of a utility, regulatory agency, consulting firm, manufacturer, distributor, agent, or other supplier employee;
- A student or faculty member of a univeristy or college closely associated with water supply engineering or a public works program.
Action Items/Tasks
- Host drinking water industrial and municipal facilities tours.
- Create a presence at the Minnesota AWWA conference for young professionals.
- Complete an annual community service project.
- Host social events, including a young professionals meet-and-greet at the Minnesota AWWA conference.
