Notes from Chairperson Moulton

Welcome to the website home of the Minnesota Section American Water Works Association. The Minnesota Section takes pride in being the leading source of safe water and as you navigate our website please take notice that as an Association it is our focus to provide assistance in education and training related to the water industry. We are committed to educating our members who are intregal in providing safe water to our customers through out Minnesota.
For the upcoming year I have set high standards for our organization and plan to accomplish the following goals, they include:
- Promote active participation in the Minnesota Water and Wastewater Agency Response Network (MnWARN) - MnWARN is a formal emergency response program for water, wastewater, and storm water utilities. Through a mutual aid agreement these communities have the offering of assistance during emergency situations. Currently there are 95 communities that have signed on with the mutual aid agreement and many more are considering becoming a member. It is important for each public water supply to note that there is help in support in other members and that when the need arises you can count in each other. The website home for MnWARN is at http://www.mnwarn.org/.
- Keep our members and Board focused on our vision which states – “The Minnesota Section will be the leading force in Minnesota dedicated to safe drinking water”. While this sounds easy it can be rather difficult, our members and governing board are very active, with the tough economic times we currently face, it is now more than ever that we accomplish our mission through advocacy and direct communications. Our annual conference continues to be one of the best in the region and our education and training programs have continued to be an outstanding networking opportunity and as we all know networking leads to increased membership. Our district schools are also an excellent opportunity to meet our neighbors and become acquainted with them. Currently there are over 1,050 Minnesota Section AWWA members who come from all aspects of the water industry, all professionals.
Also planned for 2010 are changes to our current Bylaws. It has been over 10-years since the last revision and times have changed, we have changed, the Board has completed the reviews and the proposed changes were posted at the Annual Conference. The membership will take formal action at the 2010 Annual Conference. You may view the changes at the following site - section/200908BylawUpdate.pdf.
I invite you to supply feedback and suggestions for improvements – it is you who can make the difference in an organization like ours – the Minnesota Section of the American Water Works.
